The winners of the 12th Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA), sponsored by Citi Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Citigroup, and organised by SAJIDA Foundation, were formally announced at a ceremony at The Westin Dhaka on April 15.
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal graced the program as Chief Guest while renowned economist Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, Chairperson of the 12th CMA Advisory Committee, presided over it. Among other guests were M A Mannan, State Minister for Finance and Planning; S. K. Sur Chowdhury, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank; James Morrow, Sub-Cluster Head at Citi Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; Rashed Maqsood, Managing Director & Country Officer of Citi Bangladesh; and Zahida Fizza Kabir, Executive Director of SAJIDA Foundation.
Microentrepreneurs from different districts, representatives from microfinance institutions as well as important officials from the ministries and the central bank, diplomats, dignitaries and members from the Advisory Council and Screening Committee of the 12th CMA program were also present.
The distinguished guests presented a crest, cheque and certificate to each of the 14 winners in six categories, including Best Microentrepreneur of the Year, Best Women Microentrepreneur of the Year, Best Youth Microentrepreneur of the Year, Best Microentrepreneur of the Year in Agriculture, Best Microfinance Institution of the Year, and Most Innovative Microfinance Institution of the Year.
The prestigious Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards recognize the efforts of individuals and microfinance institutions to alleviate poverty through various micro-entrepreneurial activities. SAJIDA Foundation has been working as the organising partner of CMA for the last two years.
