HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! SAJIDA Foundation partners with Dhaka Tribune, The Daily Star, ABC Radio FM 89.2, and Radio Dhol to share the stories of struggling pavement dweller mothers of Amrao Manush Project

This Mother’s Day, as we show our affection and appreciation for the loving mothers in our families, let us also wish those unsung mothers who are forever struggling in the periphery – the domestic help keeping our homes clean, the woman selling vegetables on the roadside; the beggar at your car window, carrying her child – always right in front of us, but never quite in the picture.

Here’s to all mothers, everywhere, who are struggling in their own ways, fighting their own battles, to ensure a life of health, happiness and dignity for their children. Here’s to their dreams and hopes, their courage and unwavering resolution that their children will grow up to be kind and successful. May all their wishes come true.

Get a glimpse of their story in The Daily Star News section

Meet Monowara – a single mother who once converted to another religion to get married to her loved one, only to be abandoned and left homeless when she was six months pregnant.

Meet Tania – who moved to Dhaka city to escape a life of abuse, only to become trapped in sex work. It was her son who inspired her to leave the profession of sex work behind and work for a better future.

Meet Momtaj – a blind mother who found herself alone and on the streets to raise her newborn child with no support and no source of income.
