Thursday, May 31, 2018, marked the launch of the program titled “WASH4UrbanPoor” at Bangladesh Institute of Administrative Management (BIAM), aimed to address Water, Sanitation and Hygiene issues in urban Bangladesh. The five-year project funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) in association with SAJIDA Foundation, will work towards improving WASH services in slums, enhancing environmental health resilience of low-income urban communities and creating an enabling policy environment. The program will be implemented in 30 slums, 10 schools and 1 health centre under 4 zones and 16 wards of Dhaka South City Corporation.
Mr. Khan Mohammad Belal, CEO, Dhaka South City Corporation graced the event as Chief Guest Distinguished special guests included Eng. Uttam Kumar Roy, FCMA (Commercial Manager, Dhaka WASA), Md. Liakath Ali, PhD (director-Programmes and Policy Advocacy, WaterAid Bangladesh) and other government representatives. Md Fazlul Hoque, Director, SAJIDA Foundation, presented the project in his opening statement and spoke about SAJIDA’s initiatives. The event was concluded with the remarks of Ms Zahida Fizza Kabir, Executive Director, SAJIDA Foundation.
