SAJIDA’s WASH program observes National Sanitation Month and Global Handwashing Day

SAJIDA has various projects running under its WASH program. October is National Sanitation Month and October 15 is Global Handwashing Day. Each project had several activities and events that took place to observe this month.

SAJIDA Foundation and Savar Upazila administration, Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) jointly arranged a colorful rally and Handwashing demonstration and discussion meeting to mark the National Sanitation Month and Global handwashing Day 2018 at Upazila premises on 17 October. There was a total of 338 participants including students, teachers, journalists, public representatives, NGO personnel and government officials. The rally was led by Dr. Enamur Rahman, Honorable Member of Parliament. Md. Asad Ullah, Assistant Engineer, DPHE, Md. Fazlul Hoque, Director, SAJIDA Foundation. Upazila Chairman, Upazila Vice Chairman and Md. Zubair Hasan Rashed, Assistant Commissioner were also present at the rally.

Improving Access to WASH for Ready-Made Garments (RMG) Workers in Bangladesh

On October 23, 2018 a session was conducted with RMG workers at CIPL – Cosmopolitan Industries Pvt. Ltd. of EPIC Group to raise awareness on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) for ensuring access to WASH leading pathways to achieve the SDGs.

On October 24, 2018, National Sanitation Month and Global Handwashing Day was observed at Jafar Matbor Academy. Major activities included soap drive, poster competition, pledge board signing, handwashing demonstration, discussion meeting and prize giving ceremony. On October 29, 2018, WASH facilities were inaugurated at the Hazi Ambia School & College and National Sanitation Month and Global Handwashing Day was also observed. Honorable UP Chairman of Ashulia Union was the chief guest at this event. Similar major activities were observed and a dramatic portrayal of WASH activities and cultural programs helped disseminate knowledge in an interactive way. 

WASH4Urban Poor

On the month of October, WASH4Urban Poor project observed global handwashing day throughout the month at different schools, pavement dwellers centers and communities to raise awareness regarding water, sanitation and hygiene. Poster competition, hand washing demonstration, video documentation on the importance of handwashing, rally and awareness session took place at different levels of beneficiaries to raise awareness regarding the importance of hand washing.
